We love Amazon SimpleDB

But a problem we hear mentioned a lot is how to do backups of your data. Here at Mindsizzlers we have built a solution to serve our own needs but realised that it is also useful to a wider community of users. Hence BackupSDB was born, the world's first web based backup solution for SimpleDB.

Our SimpleDB backup solution

Using this website, you can quickly and easily start a backup of any of your SimpleDB domains. What our background agents will do is extract all the data as xml files with a maximum of 1000 records per file. We then store the files in Amazon S3 for you to preserve your data safely out of SimpleDB. As a further convenience, our website allows you to download a single compressed xml file containing all of the data in the chosen domain so that you can preserve the data on your own physical disc storage if desired.

Plus a great query browser

Frustrated not being able to see your data easily? We were, so we have just added a query browser that lets you explore the results of a user definable SELECT query. It also lets you delete rows, so be careful out there!

API now live

Our API allows you to interact with BackupSDB using simple HTTP GET requests with results returned as XML. Examine your backups, initiate new backups and see the files we have created all from your own scripts.

How much does it cost?

When you register you will have a FREE subscription account which lets you use all of our features but with the limitation of only 10,000 records per domain backed up. Our BASIC account gives you access to all the features we have at present without limits and costs just $9 per month. You can upgrade from your account page.
